If we do go back to the years 1990/2000 period we would see several outstanding players like the following. !) Goal Keepers Angelo Peruzzi , Christian Abbiati Gianluigi Buffoon and Gianluca Plaglaluca . 2) defenders Franco Barresi, Paulo Maldini, Aleksander o Nesta, Alexandro Costacruta . 3) Midfielders Dino Baggio, Roberto Donodoni , Gianluca Vialli . 4) Strikers Roberto Baggio, Alexander Del Piero, Fabrizio Ravenelli. I ask you will todays Italian footballers who are now playing for Italy today , could any of them on their own merit fit into the Italian team of the 1990,/2000? And the answer is a NO. Mind you Italy failed to qualify for the 2018 world cup in Russia, for the first time in sixty years.
