HE WAS THE FIRST BRITISH FOOTBALLER TO PLAY FOR REAL MADRID OR SPAIN.

 Laurie Cunningham, was born to Jamaican parents livig in England,, he wsa a black footballer pet named THE BALLERINA,he was fast ,graceful, smooth a nd had two dancing  feet and plenty of stamina too.

 He started his football career with Orient., and later moved to West Brom Albion.

 But then in 1979  he joined the Spanish giants Real Madrid, and so became the first black as well as the first British footballer to play for Real Madrid..

 Now you must also remember hat e Spanish dictator General  Franco had died a few years earlier. And he was a very big fan of Real Madrid  , and he would threaten footballers with harsh punishment if hey joined Barcelona .

 So I doubt if Laurie Cunningham would have played  for Real Madrid, if General Franco was alive then.

he did quite well for Real Madrid and was quite popular in the dressing rooom at Real Madrid..

 But in the year 1989 , he was  driving hs car  when he failed to see a car broken down on a turn, but he tried to avoid te car and hit the lamppost  and the car spun in the air. Laurie Cunningham was killed on the spot .but his companion escaped death. But toxicology , showed he had three times the level f alcohol inthe body then permitted.
