The year was 2012 and Tottenham Hotspurs , along with their manager Harry Redknapp, were in late and serious talks with he Belgian play make Eden Hazard who at that time was playing for the French club Lille .
The move was almost done and dusted, but Eden Hazard demanded that Tottenham Hotspurs, should then be playing in the champion league the following year.
Harry Redknapp assured Eden Hazard that they had finished fourth in the English Premier League.
Harry Redknapp was to receive a very rude shock here, as Chelsea finished fifth on the table Tottenham Hotspurs were delighted .
But then Chelsea had won their champion league that year and so qualified for the champion league. And so very sadly Tottenham Hotspurs took Chelsea's place on the table . And missed playing champion league that yare.
Eden Hazard rejected the offer made by Redknapp., and he joined Chelsea. The rest is History.
A case of so very near and yet so very far.
