EDWIN VAN DER SAR SAYS HE WAS NEARLY GOING TO JOIN LIVERPOOL IN THE YEAR 1999.

Edwin Van der Sar , the famous Dutch goalkeeper, who played for Ajax, Juventus , Fulham and Manchester united in his long and glittering career. He came from the youth academy at Ajax of Amsterdam. But then Ajax was facing financial problems so many of those giants were sold like Dennis Bergkamp, Clarence Seedorf and Edgar David's.. But in the year Edwin Van Der Sar went to Liverpool there he met the French manager Gerrard Haulier, was taken around their stadium and met the Liverpool players, this was in the year 1999, but he did not join up with Liverpool, as at that same time he got a offer from Italy to be the number one goalkeeper at Juventus. So the Liverpool plan just collapsed. Edwin Van der sar became the first and only non Italian goalkeeper to play for Juventus. but he was sold when Juventus brought Gianluigi Buffon from Parma for a world record of 33. thirty three and a half million pounds. Sir Alex Ferguson always says this was his big mistake not buying Edwin Van der Sar from Juventus, he the Dutch goalkeeper joined Fulham in England, but he joined Manchester United in 1998.
