The Italian striker Paulo Rossi who played for Vicenza , Juventus, A.C.Milan , has sadly died at the age of 64, sixty four years, he was not well for some time, but he family have not disclosed his illness.
He will be remembered mainly in Italy for single handedly winning the third world cup for Italy in Spain, in the year 1982, he also won the Gulden boot after scoring six goals, including a hat rick against Brazil, with a score of 3-2.
Actually the 1982 world cup started with a whimper Italy drew all tgeir first three games in the group stages. They defeated Germany in the final . He also won the then called EUROPEAN FOOTBALLER OF THE YEAR.
But things would have been different here as in the year 1980, Paulo Rossi was involved in match fixing and got a three year ban, after he appealed it was reduced to two years ban only . So he played in the world cup in 1982.
The match fixing scandal is called THE TOTONERO SCANDAL.
He always said he was innocent in the case. He said winning the world cup brought him redemption.
