As Alex Ferguson was looking for a good replacement as a goalkeeper at Manchester United. After the retirement of the dutch goalkeeper Edwin Vander Sar. And some he had looked closely at was the German keeper Manuel Neuer. but Manuel Neuer wanted a club in Germany only, so he settled for Bayern Munich, who failed to get a good keeper after the retirement of Oliver Kahn.
He wanted a young goalkeeper, so he chose the 20 year old goalkeeper of Atletico Madrid, David de Gea.
So sure was Ferguson of getting the Spaniard that he said the deal was done for 18 million pounds.But Ferguson was in for a rude shock as David de Gea said through a solicitor in Madrid that nothing was final, and David de Gea wanted to concentrate on the under 21 world cup only .He would decide later.
