The mighty Spanish giants Real Madrid were defeated by joint Spanish leaders Atletico Madrid, and to make matters worse it was played in the Real Madrid backyard , the famous Santiago Bernabeu .
The winning margin was a very narrow one it was 1-0 victory to Atletico Madrid, and the goal scorer was the young talented footballer Diego Costa.
The last win was back in the year 1999 , when Real Madrid lost to Atletico Madrid., it took them 14 long years to break that jinx and a total of 23 games as well.
Please note I am only talking of the La Liga games, but yes Atletico Madrid did win the Copa Del Rey last year over Real Madrid.
