HOW CLOSE WAS RON VLAARS PENALTY FROM GOING IN?
The Holland and Mexico semi final match which ended 0-0 was played the usual extra time , of thirty minutes fifteen minutes in each half.
During the penalty time , it was reprted by the Dutch coach Louis Van Gaal that two of the Dutch players refused to take their penalties, and to make matters worse for the Dutch Robin Van Persie was replaced in the last few minutes of extra time as he was exhausted.
Now this is where Louis Van Gaal made a mistake he told a inexperinced Ron Vlaar to take the first penalty, instead of giving it to Arjen Robben or Wesley Sneijder.
Now the Mexican goalkeeper was Sergio Romero, who once played under Louis Van Gaal at A.Z Alkamar in Holland. It was Louis Van Gaal taught him to save penalties.
Now Ron Vlaar took the penalty, Sergio Romero saved it with his outstreched hands. Now he was so busy celebrating he did not see the ball roll backwards after it bounced on the ground, it rolled backwards and stopped on the goal line, it was a milimeter from going in.
Now according to F.I.F.A rules, for the goal to be declared as a goal the ball must cross entirely over the goal line.
