IN THE YEAR 1984 THERE WAS A RIVALRY FOR THE BEST PLAYERS IN ITALY,LIKE TODAY IN SPAIN .
In the year 1984, in Italy there was a rivalry between two very, very talented players one was from France and the other was from Argentina.
The French striker was Michael Platinni who played for The Italian giants Juventus, also called the OLD LADY OF TURIN.
the Argentinean striker was Diego Maradona, who was playing for club called Napoli, based at Naples. He joined Napoli for a small fee , and mid you they Napoli broke the bank to buy Diego Maradona from Barcelona for six million pounds.
Please note Juventus was always a very strong club even then , while on the other hand Napoli was a club always fighting relegation.
Both these two giants of football really lit up Italian football, at a time Italian football was in its glory days, not at all like today.
But Both these highly talented footballers were so good that Juventus won the title in Italy champion league and other trophies. But then Napoli matched their attempts and trophies domestically.
Michael Platini became the first footballer ever to win the Ballond'OR three years in a row.
Actually Juventus,Inter Milan, A.C Milan as well as Fiorentina were all keen to buy Diego Maradona then but decided not to buy him due to the troubles he gave Barcelona.
Today we see this type of rivalry between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in Spain with Barcelona and Real Madrid.
