Sir Alex Ferguson had a meeting at a hotel with the manager of Southampton ,George Burley.
Manchester United were very keen to buy the very young Welsh winger Gareth Bale , from Southamton. The selling price for Gareth Bale was between 3, three and 4, four million pounds .Real peanuts I would say then.
But Manchester United could not reach a agreement with Southampton.
And there was another problem which made the deal collapse in the end.
The reason was Southampton did not want to sell Gareth Bale then as they had sod pot Theodore Walcott, to Arsenal.
