Barcelona had brought Luis Figo from the Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon.
And to be honest he did very well at Barcelona , and was loved and had a big fan base at Barcelona I would say. He was the captain at Barcelona and won the COPA DEL REY cup as well. He played along with Rivaldo and Sunny Anderson.
But then in the year 2000 things changed for Luis Figo and Barcelona .
There were elections that year and the man standing for the post of the president of Real Madrid was Florentino Peres. He told Luis Figo to sign a paper that said if he Florentino Pees won the presidents election then he would have to sign up for Real Madrid., or he would have to pay Florentino Peres 35, thirty five million Euros.
Now Florentino Peres won the elections and he wanted Luis Figo to leave Barcelona.
Now Luis Figo repeatedly said that he ad no desire to leave Barcelona, e even came for a program along with Rivaldo and Sunny Anderson , having dyed their hair in the red and blue colours of the Barcelona jersey.
As Luis Figo did not have thirty five million Euros , to give Florentino Peres, he was bought by Real Madrid ,who paid Barcelona 36, thirty six million pounds, it was a world record then.
Luis Figo won the champion league and La Liga at Real Madrid, he also won the Balloon d Or .
But Luis Figo was a hated man by Barcelona he was welcomed by banner's tat said Judas Figo, lighters, coins beer bottles were always thrown at him when he took corners and free kicks, he was even told by the Real Madrid to stop taking corners and free kicks and throws as well. Once even a head of a suckling pig was thrown at Luis Figo, that s now at the Barcelona museum.
Even today Luis Figo is a hated man by Barcelona and it's fans world over.
