Manoel FransiscoDo Santos or better known to the football world as GARRINCHA or LittleBird. The littrel meaning is the WREN.
He played footballfor Brazil in the 1 958 1962 World cups. And as long as Pele and Garrincha played together as forwards Brazil never lost a match. He was admired on the pitch as the worlds greatest dribller and he was wild of the field,his weakness was alchol that eventuallykilled him of at the age of fourty nine years, of scirosisof the liver he had a few car crashes as well.
Back to his football and magic feet. He had several birth defects , his spine was deformed , his right legbent inwards ,his right leg was six centimeters shorter and curled outwards. B ut he did not let these problems spoil his wonderful game of football. Both Pele and Garrincha played in a total of sixty games for Brazil from 1958 ,1962 ,and loss cameagainst England in 1966 world cup . It was atotal of sixty games they won fiftythree and seven were drawn.
His private life was a wreck his two wifes left him and it is said he fathered 14, fourteen children. But with all this he was very much loved by the Brazilins. The stadium at Brasila is named after him.
Thousands marched through the streets at his funeral ,so popular was he.
He was born in 28/10/1933 and died in19/1/1983. The LITTLE BIRDS Gravestone has these words HERE RESTS ONE WHO GAVE US SO MUCH JOY.
In the year1962 a movie was made on the life of GARRICHA both on and of the pitch . It was called JOY OF THE PEOPLE. In the year 2003 another movie was made on Garrincha called THE LONELY STAR.
